Client: Transport for NSW
Event: NSW Easter Show 2024
Location: Sydney Showground, Home and Lifestyle Pavillion

Event Overview:

Transport for NSW unveiled an engaging and educational stand at the 2024 NSW Easter Show, hosted at Sydney Showground in Homebush. Building on the success of the 2023 design, this year’s stand introduced significant enhancements and new interactive features, aimed at captivating visitors—particularly children—while educating them about road safety. Each year, various Departments are represented at the Easter Show, and this year’s stand highlighted Sydney Metro, Transport for Road Safety, and Cities and Active Transport (CATS).

The stand aimed to educate the public on essential road safety practices through immersive and hands-on experiences.

Objective and Engagement:

The primary objective of the Transport for NSW stand was to engage visitors, particularly children, in learning about road safety in a fun, interactive, and memorable way. By incorporating both traditional educational tools and modern technology, the stand provided a comprehensive learning experience that appealed to all ages. The use of interactive games and digital content allowed visitors to actively participate in the learning process, rather than passively receiving information.

Design and Features:

The 2024 stand design incorporated existing assets from the previous year, such as crash cars, school zone crossing lights, and road safety signs. To enhance visitor engagement, new interactive elements were added:

Magnetic Wall Game: A new wall game with a magnetic board and custom artwork was a major highlight. This game allowed children and adults alike to engage with road safety topics in a fun way, making learning both enjoyable and memorable.

AV Technology and Digital Interaction: The stand showcased advanced audiovisual setups, including custom touch screen tables in the Sydney Metro area where visitors could explore the new metro line. The highlight of the CATS space was a virtual bicycle video game that we developed from scratch. Children could sit on a stationary bike facing a screen, select an avatar, and watch as the avatar moved with their pedalling. This interactive experience aimed to raise awareness about safe riding practices and encourage visitors to choose cycling over driving. The setup featured two bikes, each equipped with bells and reflectors, mounted on custom steel frames that allowed the back wheel to spin freely.

Large Scale Printed Fabric Banner: A prominent overhead large-scale printed fabric banner enhanced visual impact of the stand.

Eco Flooring and Custom Print Features: The base of the stand was laid out with 153 square metres of eco-friendly flooring, complete with a vinyl underlay and custom print non-slip floor decals. These elements ensured both safety and aesthetic appeal, aligning with the road safety message of the stand.

Reusable AMES Hire Frame System and Custom PVC Panels: The structure of the stand was built using our reusable AMES hire frame system, paired with custom-printed PVC panels. This approach not only allowed for a versatile and sturdy build but also promoted sustainability through the reuse of existing materials.

Spin the Wheel Activation: A fun and engaging interactive game where participants could spin a wheel to win prizes.

Creating a Lively Atmosphere: To make the stand both informative and enjoyable, we incorporated various elements to create a lively atmosphere. The stand featured a crossing officer cut-out, adding a touch of fun while reinforcing the importance of pedestrian safety. A custom real-life scale school zone crossing sign enhanced the authenticity of the experience.

Internet Connectivity: To support the interactive and digital elements of the stand, a stable internet connection was provided, ensuring seamless functionality of all interactive displays and online content.
