Client: Italian Trade Agency (ITA)

The Italian Trade Agency (ITA) is renowned for promoting Italy’s rich heritage of products and services globally. For Fine Food Australia 2024, ITA aimed to create a standout pavilion to showcase Italy’s finest food products and provide an immersive experience for visitors. Grand Stand Events was awarded the tender based on our commitment to high-quality design, sustainability, and innovative execution.

Challenge:

The ITA required a pavilion that would stand out from competitors while offering functionality for its 25 co-exhibitors. The design needed to combine modern elegance with a distinct Italian flair, all while focusing on sustainability. Additionally, the pavilion had to accommodate spaces for product displays, a live cooking station for demonstrations, a welcoming meeting area, and sufficient storage—all within a 270 sqm footprint.

The pavilion also needed to attract attention from all angles within the exhibition space, ensuring high visibility. Moreover, the ITA required full compliance with Australian and Italian regulations, including safety and environmental standards.

Solution:

Grand Stand Events delivered a sleek, minimalist pavilion design that incorporated clean lines, bright timber finishes, and the signature green, white, and red of the Italian Trade Agency. The pavilion was carefully planned to ensure functionality, with an open layout allowing visitors to easily navigate the 25 individual exhibitor stands.

Key Design Features:

1. Impactful Branding: Using the airspace above the aisles, we created eye-catching overhead branding that enhanced visibility and attracted maximum foot traffic. This rigged banner system used tensioned block-out fabric and was both visually striking and cost-effective, as there were no additional charges for airspace usage at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC).

2. Sustainability: Sustainability was a core focus. We used eco-friendly materials, including 100% recycled plastic Eco-Flooring, significantly reducing waste compared to traditional MDF flooring. All PVC and Dibond panels were recycled, diverting approximately 1.25 cubic metres of material from landfill . The walls featured hollow aluminium frames, which allowed for efficient power management while maintaining a lightweight structure.

3. Cooking Station: A major highlight of the pavilion was the front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH) cooking station. The FOH featured a curved cooking counter, integrated appliances, and professional-grade equipment for live cooking demonstrations, enabling visitors to experience Italian cuisine firsthand.

Execution:

From design to construction, Grand Stand Events managed every aspect of the project, ensuring compliance with Australian safety standards and meeting the deadlines required for Fine Food Australia 2024.

• Build and Logistics: The pavilion was constructed using sustainable materials, including raised Eco-Flooring to manage water and power efficiently, concealing wiring and creating a clean, polished appearance

• Bump-In and On-Site Management: We managed the installation at the MCEC, ensuring that all structural elements, including rigging and electrical systems, met safety requirements. Our team was on-site during the event to provide ongoing support and maintenance

Outcome:

The Italian Pavilion at Fine Food Australia 2024 was an overwhelming success, attracting significant attention and foot traffic due to its innovative design, live cooking demonstrations, and strong branding. The cooking station became a central hub of activity, allowing visitors to engage with Italian products in a dynamic and interactive way.

• Visitor Engagement: The pavilion attracted high visitor numbers, with the cooking station acting as a focal point. Exhibitors benefitted from the well-planned layout, which optimised product visibility and provided opportunities for direct engagement with potential buyers

• Sustainability: By using recycled and eco-friendly materials, Grand Stand Events helped ITA significantly reduce its environmental impact, aligning with global trends toward sustainability in exhibitions

Conclusion:

Grand Stand Events successfully fulfilled the Italian Trade Agency’s objectives for the Italian Pavilion at Fine Food Australia 2024. Through a sustainable, modern, and visually striking design, we helped ITA showcase the best of Italy’s food industry, creating a memorable and engaging experience for visitors.

This project demonstrates our expertise in delivering high-impact exhibition spaces that combine aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability. We are proud to have partnered with ITA on this prestigious event, further solidifying our reputation as leaders in exhibition design.
